Ottawa Society of Botanical Artists
Ottawa Society of Botanical Artists
The sun shone, the people came and it was a marvellous event all round with great energy and lots of interest!
OSBA, the Ottawa Potter's Guild and the Nepean Foyer Gallery artists anchored the event setting up their displays under a giant tent.
Six OSBA members participated representing their work, each other and OSBA with expertise and professionalism: Rachel Balderson, Peg Duncan, Raewyn Khosla, Linda Hamilton, Andrée Pouliot and Kerri Weller.
Led by coordinators, Linda and Raewyn, the artists joined together to create a wonderful exhibit area of original works, reproduction prints and notecards for display and sale. Artworks were complemented by a series of informational posters About OSBA, What is Botanical Art?, and How is the art created? featuring Kristin Rothschild's watercolour of a magnolia.
OSBA members Pat and Janice gave behind the scenes support. With husbands Hank and Pete, like magic they arrived early in the morning for set up and then end of the day takedown!
Not just an art event: The Ottawa Master Gardener's gave advice. Ecology Ottawa gave away native tree seedlings. Horse-drawn wagon rides were fun. Forest bathing was experienced. Tours of Canadensis Garden site tour were given showing the plans for the Botanical Garden of Canada.
To find out more about the Canadensis Garden project, please visit their website. The site is located in the Central Experimental Farm, adjacent to the Fletcher Wildlife Garden on Prince of Wales Drive.
